PRIVATE PESTICIDE APPLICATOR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do I do with the applicator training forms?

The 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" form has two copies, white & yellow. Give the white copy to the applicator and keep the yellow copy until the certification expires.

What do I do if the applicator does not want to use his social security number?

We are in the process of switching to Drivers License numbers. At this point the PATIM program will not accept letters so enter the DL number and use zeros (0) in place of letters. If the person does not have a drivers license, then create a unique number with the same number of digits as a social security number. Use the 3 digit county code as the first 3 digits, then fill with zeros and a 1, 2 3 ... etc.

When do I send the Patim database in for updating?

The Patim database should be submitted after each training session.

Why must I send the Patim database in for updating after each training session?

The master database must be kept up to date for reports required by the State and federal agencies; the updated master also provides a backup for the county database. We do not have the information on newly-trained applicators until the database is sent to us.

How do I send the Patim database in for updating?

  1. Open your email program start a "New Message".
  2. Manually address it to: patim@uky.edu
  3. Enter the county name and "Patim database" in the Subject line.
  4. Add a message if you like, then click "Insert" and "Attach File".
  5. Select the drive where Patim resides (normally C:).
  6. Under directories, select Patim20. (don't just highlight, double-click it).
  7. Under files, select PatimXXX.dbf (XXX is your county code).
  8. Make sure the complete path shows in the upper window under file name & location (i.e. C:\Patin20\PatimXXX.dbf). If you do not see the address, it will not send.
  9. Click on "Insert". The database file name should appear in the Attached: box below the email Subject: box.
  10. Click "Send" and you are finished.

There is no need to send copies to other addresses.

What do I do if someone received training and was not issued a card?

Issue a card based on the training date entered on the applicator training form.

What if someone's card is lost, or destroyed?

Re-issue the card using the original number and expiration date.

Why should I use special procedures when setting up a new computer?

There is a counter used to create the certification number. If the file with the most recent certification number (coini.dbf) is not moved to the new machine, then the counter resets to zero and the certification numbers will be duplicated. The same thing happens if the computer's clock is re-set.

Who do I call/email for information about Patim?

Lee Townsend, UK Entomology
Phone: (859) 257-7455
E-mail: Lee.Townsend@uky.edu
